Writers’ Café project set to inspire and connect
Auckland Writers
Writers’
Café Auckland opened its (virtual) doors today, with a
small launch party attended by staff and local
writers.
Writers’ Café was founded by local Auckland writers, who wanted to connect writers and provide solutions to their frustrations.
“We’re creating the space we as writers would love to have, a physical space to write, but also a go-to place for information, courses, feedback, and to connect with other writers at all stages on their writing journey,” says Writers’ Café co-founder Julie Sandilands
Workshop co-ordinator Ellie Kivinen was a key driver of this initiative. “Writing can be a very isolating endeavour. We want to bring Auckland writers together, and make it easier for us all to access resources and support. I’m very excited about this launch, and what it means for the Auckland writing community.”
The skill building aspect is particularly interesting for team member Shan Iyer: “When I started writing, I found it frustrating and difficult to analyse my own writing and identify how to improve it and work towards excellence. Getting feedback, tips and critique from fellow writers has been immensely helpful, and I’m passionate about helping those starting their own writing journey.”
Writers’ Café Auckland will exist in 2018 primarily as an online community, with physical events and a series of workshops offered throughout spring and summer.
The staff are working hard to bring this all together into the ‘real world’ in 2019, in a cafe where aspiring writers are especially welcome. The count-down is underway to the launch of a crowdfunding campaign to turn this dream into a reality. Keep up to date at http://www.writerscafe.nz
