Finally a chance to ride Local: Zoomy is coming to Christchurch

Zoomy, New Zealand’s local ride share service, plans to start operating in Christchurch this year. Zoomy started recruiting drivers in Christchurch in September, and is delighted with the interest, perhaps built of its reputation already built in Wellington and Auckland.

“Cantabs have been asking for months about when we will be coming to Christchurch, and like with all the things we do, we listened, and here we come” commented James Fisk, Zoomy’s CEO. “We want to be able to offer a kiwi choice in the ride sharing market, bring down the cost of travel, and also provide better income for Christchurch’s drivers”.

Zoomy is no newbie to ride sharing, and has been going strong since 2016. “As an organisation we live by our vision of being a local rideshare with better fares for passengers and fairer pay for drivers. We know this resonates well with Kiwis and we’re looking forward to shaking things up in Christchurch” added Fisk. “We’ve already had hundreds of drivers register in Christchurch, and with rates of up to 40% less than competitors, we expect the interest to continue” Fisk said.

Safety is paramount to Zoomy. All drivers are required to hold a current Passenger Endorsement licence, insurance, and be NZTA compliant. Zoomy also encourages direct feedback through any of its kiwi based channels, and rate your drivers. To use Zoomy, passengers simply download the app, enter their credit card information and order rides without having to call a dispatch service.

Zoomy sees itself as a ethical alternative ride service. “The reason why we have seen the incredible growth that we have is really the differentiation with how we treat people, in this specific instance, with the way we treat our drivers. We really believe that if we treat our driving community well and keep the focus local that will in turn create a great experience for our passenger community.”

The exact date of launching Zoomy in Christchurch is yet to be announced, but Fisk made it clear he wants to be there in time for Cricket season.
