Police appeal for witnesses following serious Hamilton crash

Attribute to Inspector Marcus Lynam, Waikato Road Policing Manager:

Waikato Police are appealing for witnesses following a crash where a girl was seriously injured in Hamilton this morning.

At approximately 8.13am, the 11-year-old schoolgirl was hit by a ute on a pedestrian crossing on Morrinsville Road, Hillcrest, near Berkley Normal Middle School.

The girl has been transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the incident and an eastbound section of Morrinsville Road has been closed between the SH1 roundabout and Silverdale Road.

Motorists are advised that the partial road closure is expected to remain in place for several hours while our staff investigate the scene.

Inspector Marcus Lynam says a male is currently assisting Police with our enquiries, however Police still want to hear from any witnesses who saw the incident occur or were at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Hamilton Central Police on 07-858 6200.

Police also remind all motorists in general to take extra care when driving near school zones.
