Te Aroha tramper rescued from Raetea Forest

"Te Aroha tramper rescued from Raetea Forest "

Search and Rescue, along with local volunteers, have rescued a hiker from the Raetea Forest.

Police received a call last night (November 7) from a 24-year-old woman who had become lost in the forest while walking the Te Arora trail.

Due to poor reception the call was cut short.

SAR was deployed around 6am today (November 8) along with Far North LandSAR volunteers.

The woman was located around midday, some way off the trial after falling down a tall waterfall.

She walked out with minor injuries.

Jim Adamson says that there are four key pieces of advice for anyone going hiking or tramping - stay as a group, keep an eye on the weather, be willing to turn back and wear appropriate clothing.

“It’s crucial to be prepared when going into the bush.

Walkers should take a map or GPS, and make sure to go with a companion.”
