"UPDATE: Serious crash, Northland"
Police can now confirm one person has died in a two-vehicle crash in Northland.
The crash occurred on State Highway 1 south of Kawakawa about 4.30pm.
The deceased, a male passenger, died at the scene.
Four other people were airlifted to Whangarei Hospital — two with serious injuries.
The road remains closed and diversions are in place through Mangakahia Road.
