A chance to meet everyday heroes

Waikato Police will give locals a chance to get up close and personal with “Everyday heroes” next month.

The free event will begin at 9am on Wednesday 19 December at The Base Shopping Centre where a range of interesting and exciting emergency service displays and demonstrations will be on show for all to enjoy.

Police, Fire and St John will be in attendance, while the efforts of other organisations and volunteers that help keep our communities safe will also be celebrated.

The free event will include demonstrations and interactive displays from the Armed Offenders Squad, Road Policing teams, Raglan Surf Lifesaving Club, Waikato Regional Council Maritime Services, Land SAR Hamilton and many more.

The ever-popular Police Eagle and Westpac Rescue helicopters will also touch down for an hour of viewing, as well as the chance for four members of the public to win a flights over Hamilton.

Constable Peter Van’t Wout says the day offers Police an important opportunity to interact with the community.

“It’s a chance for the community to meet a number of services and agencies that are responsible for saving lives and making our communities safer.

“The event allows us to build trust and confidence in our agencies, to take the mystery out of policing and show everyone first-hand what we do.

“It is great that we can do this with other organisations who add so much value to our community.”
