Kaipara District keeps its promise.

Kaipara District Council agreed to keep to its current plan and budget for 2019/2020 with no new spending and no additional rates increase. This is to follow-on from the consultation undertaken last year as part of the Long Term Plan 2018/2028. The average rates rise predicted for year two of the Long Term Plan 2018/2028 is set at 5.26%.

“This result is fantastic for the community. We’re holding to our commitments set in the Long Term Plan 2018/2028, and this comes off the back of a body of work that Council officers worked towards to find operational budget savings of over $1 million. We will be delivering our agreed upon levels of service. It’s another great example of Kaipara doing more with less.” said Jason Smith, Mayor of Kaipara District.

Mr Smith says an Annual Plan for 2019/2020 will be produced to highlight the works Council will be carrying out, but will not be consulted upon. Jason Marris, General Manager, Governance, Strategy and Democracy said “While we won’t be following the traditional consultation of previous years, we’ll be running a programme of information events to let everyone know what this Annual Plan means for Kaipara residents and communities.”

Every three years Council is required to produce a Long Term Plan (LTP), and develop annual plans in the non-LTP years. This year Council adopted the LTP in June and we are now halfway through year 1 (2018/2019) of the LTP.

In 2014 amendments were made to the Local Government Act 2002 (the Act) to help reduce time and cost by removing unnecessary duplication in consultation processes and preparation of information. The Annual Plan 2019/2020 will be developed and adopted by Council before 30 June 2019. Council will make it publicly available and communicate any minor changes from the LTP that may arise.
