Mid-Northern Rodeo has threatened to trespass activists
What: ‘Ban Rodeo’ protest at Mid-Northern Rodeo
When:
Saturday 12 January 12pm
Where: 32 Kokopu Block Road,
Maungatapere
Animal activists inside the Mid-Northern
Rodeo today have been told by rodeo organisers they cannot
film using high definition cameras.
Rodeo organisers
stopped the rodeo to tell the activists they must stop
filming or they will be trespassed.
Direct Animal
Action spokesperson Apollo Taito says this is typical of
rodeo cowboys who don't want wider New Zealand to know what
really goes on at rodeos.
"Only yesterday it was
revealed that rodeo cowboys failed to mention the death of a
second animal, a horse, at Gisborne Rodeo."
"There is
a lack of transparency in rodeo that's seriously concerning.
What are they hiding? Are they afraid another animal will
die today and it will be caught on camera?"
"Rodeo is
beyond appalling and we've had a guts full of Cowboys
abusing animals for fun."
"We'll be protesting outside
the Mid-Northern today and if another animal dies, how many
times do we have to say it? The Government needs to ban this
outdated and outrageous cruelty now," said Mr Taito.
