Waikato residents urged to exercise caution

"Waikato residents urged to exercise caution"

Please attribute Detective Sergeant Philip Elvy, Waikato Police:

Waikato Police would like to speak to a group of males reported to be offering discounted home maintenance work in the Waikato area.

The individuals often approach homeowners saying they are "contractors who just happen to be in the area".

Detective Sergeant Philip Elvy says homeowners can sometimes be convinced into handing over money up-front or feel pressured to do so.

However, the reality is that these individuals are often out to obtain easy money and then quickly leave.

“If you are approached in such a situation - do not engage and do not hand over any money,” says Detective Sergeant Elvy.

“We advise you call Police immediately on 111 if you are approached in this situation."
