One Billion Trees Programme in Kapiti

Te Uru Rākau calling on Kāpiti to take part in One Billion Trees Programme

The Council is encouraging people to come along next week to a public meeting with Te Uru Rākau (Forestry New Zealand), who are coming to Kāpiti to tell us about their One Billion Trees Programme and how to get involved.

“The programme aims to plant 1 billion New Zealand trees by 2028 and provides grants to landowners and organisations looking to plant trees,” says Janice McDougall Group Manager People and Partnerships, Kāpiti Coast District Council.

“They’re now seeking applications to plant sections of 1ha or more from Kāpiti landowners, farmers, environmentalists and others who may be interested in using their land.

“As with our Provincial Growth Fund discussions, this meeting presents another great opportunity for Kāpiti – a chance to work with central government to bring growth, employment and significant environmental benefits to our District through the One Billion Trees Programme.

“If you have access to land, and think you may be interested, to come along and hear more about the programme and how to contribute.”

Where: Te Newhanga Community Centre, 15 Ngahina Street Paraparaumu

When: 10am – 12pm on Monday 25 March.
