Police will be standing with New Zealand as we come together to remember those who tragically lost their lives in the Christchurch terror attacks of 15 March.

The National Remembrance Service will take place at Hagley Park in Christchurch at 10am tomorrow, with a number of other centres also planning commemoration services.

The safety of the public is our top priority.

While Police has no information to suggest any specific risks to public safety, the national threat level remains high and Police’s vigilance and visible presence throughout New Zealand will continue.

Decisions on whether or not events should be held in the current environment is for event organisers.

Police have provided advice to councils across the country about the number and nature of events, in the interests of security for all involved.

The public is asked to continue their vigilance and report suspicious activity.

Earlier this week it was vigilance from a member of the Christchurch community that helped Police with an investigation involving illegal firearms.

We are grateful to them for alerting Police and encourage people to remain observant.

Police advise anyone attending commemoration events to stay alert and be aware of your surroundings.

If you see something suspicious, report it immediately to Police or event security staff.

Police have been and will continue to prioritise visibility in all communities throughout New Zealand.

This includes visiting schools, religious centres, businesses and community groups to talk to people and provide reassurance about the work Police is doing and the support we are providing.
