Reaction To Liquor Bill - Liquor store owners up and down the country are awaiting in fear on tonight’s debate in Parliament on the Liquor Amendment Bill. As well as the controversial issue of lowering the legal drinking age, the Bill seeks to allow supermarkets to sell beer and spirits. Co-owner of the Superliquor store in Highland Park, says that would put him and hundreds of outlets up and down the country out of business. The owner says they will be able to compete with supermarkets on price but not on volume.

Predictions of Further Petrol Price Increases - Shell has announced that it intends to increase the price of petrol by a further three cents a litre from midnight tonight. While all the other oil companies are deciding whether to follow suit a Challenge spokesperson says it is inevitable that petrol prices will go up even more, up by another 2 to 3 cents per litre.

Snow Bound - Snow is causing problems for motorists around the country today. Christchurch looks like a winter wonderland. There is rain, hail and sleet falling on Dunedin adding to already chilling conditions in that city. In central Otago many roads are closed due to snow. Police say drivers need to follow a few basic rules; take your time, increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front. Snow is also falling on the North Island’s central plateau, with the Desert Road remaining impassable after it closed last night.
