TV Staff Get Millennium Top Up - Television New Zealand staff have won what a growing number of employees are demanding for working over the millennium, a larger pay packet. Staff working from 6pm on New Years Eve or all of New Years Day will receive an extra $375 a shift. Those working a double shift will get a maximum payout of $750. The PSA says staff have every right to be compensated for working through what could be a very disruptive time. And it’s a lead all other employers should follow.

Cold Spell in South - Central Otago is in the grips of a cold snap with snow falling to very low levels in parts of the region. Dunedin police say some roads are iced over and the city’s north motorway has become quite treacherous. The cold snap is due to make its way up the South Island later today.

Pilots Strike Today - ANSETT says it is well prepared for today’s strike by more than 140 pilots. Members of the Airline Pilot’s Association enter into heir third day of strike action this month over stalled contract negotiations. In a new twist in the row ANSETT is making the pilots a new contract offer which is being looked at by the union later this week. However the airline’s chief executive says that hasn’t diverted today’s strike. The company has already shifted passengers off flights for today.
