Auckland Beaches Monitored For Water Quality
Auckland City Council - City Scene
Waterwatch
Several months ago Council's City Works Committee agreed that a beachcare volunteers programme be put in place to monitor and safeguard the water quality at city beaches.
Education is seen as the most effective way to raise community awareness of water quality issues.
A
number of community programmes, to encourage the community
to take responsibility to monitor their own or local
'stretch' of water, is to be implemented on a region-wide
basis with sponsorship from industry groups. Community
Boards are being asked to forward the names of groups to
pilot the
programme.
