Road Works On hold For APEC

Auckland City Council - City Scene

Major roadworks will go on hold in much of Auckland City during the upcoming APEC conference. Registered utility contractors will suspend work on main arterial roads from 30 August to 15 September to avoid adding to the impact of APEC on traffic in the city - and for security reasons.

Any emergency works which have to be carried out need to be authorised by a special APEC emergency operations group and conducted under police supervision.

Property developers have also been asked not to undertake service connections to sewers and drains during APEC.

Meanwhile, building contractors have been warned to plan their work around APEC if this work is vulnerable to traffic delays.

Builders should be sure that a concrete pour can be completed, for example, where more than one delivery is needed.

APEC officials' and ministerial meetings begin on 7 September, leading up to the leaders' meeting on 12 and 13 September.

A free telephone information line is now operating on 0800 APEC 99.
