Traffic update: Friday 10 September 1999

Traffic disruptions will continue in and around the central business district today as motorcades of visiting Foreign and Trade Ministers and officials move about the city.

There will be no road closures during the day but some delays will occur as motorcades enter and exit venues.

Police advice over the next few days is to think ahead, plan your journey, use public transport, car pool or allow extra time for crossing the city or travelling to and from the airport.

Road closures start taking effect from midnight tonight. From midnight Friday to midnight Monday the primary city link routes in the CBD will be closed while the Leaders' Summit takes place. Only accredited vehicles will be permitted in the secure inner city route.

Tomorrow morning (Saturday) northbound lanes of the Southern motorway from the Manukau offramp to Nelson Street will be closed at short notice for the arrival of leaders into Auckland. There could also be short term closures on the Mangere motorway route through Pah Road to Gillies Avenue and the city.

Southbound lanes will not be affected

Roads around Government House will be closed for short periods late on Saturday afternoon and again that night while presidents from the USA and China have a private meeting.

The 30 minute closures take effect on the following roads: Gillies Avenue from the motorway to Owens Road, Owens Road from Gillies Avenue to Mountain Road, Mountain Road from Owens Road to Glenfell Road and all of Glenfell Road, Omana Road and Savannah Road.

There will be no parking in these roads from midnight tonight until late on Saturday night. Residents in the area have been advised.

Roads in the Domain will be closed from 6pm tomorrow night through to 6pm Monday.
