Free Mondays Pack Out The Auckland Art Gallery

Auckland Art Gallery

The Gallery announced there would be free entry to all contemporary New Zealand art exhibitions on Mondays at the media preview to launch TOI TOI TOI: Three Generations of New Zealand Artists in May earlier this year.

At the time of this new initiative, Gallery director Chris Saines stated that the new policy’s intention was to create real opportunity for students and others to see the work of their contemporaries without impediment.

These ‘Free Mondays’ appear to be doing just that as the Gallery noted a marked increase in visitors, particularly tertiary students, visiting its New Zealand contemporary art shows TOI TOI TOI and Home and away on Mondays.

Stories we tell ourselves: The Paintings of Richard Killeen, (one of New Zealand’s major contemporary artists) is on at the New Gallery until 5 December, and will also be free on Mondays.
