Politicians To Attend Employment Forum

Auckland City Council - City Scene

A panel of different interest groups will present current and future employment issues to political party representatives at an employment forum in Auckland.

While Auckland City's population and labour force are growing quickly, there are concerns that new job creation is not keeping up with the high rate of labour force growth.

As a result, the unemployment rate in Auckland City is growing above the regional and national average. Auckland City's unemployed also have a unique ethnic make-up with a high proportion of European and Asian, a reasonably high proportion of Pacific Island peoples, and compared to national figures, a relatively low level of Maori. In addition, there are a large number of Asian immigrants with tertiary degrees and professional qualifications registered as unemployed.

Invitations will be sent to a wide range of groups about the forum, and the public is welcome to attend. The forum will be held at the Pioneer Women's Facility, corner High Street and Freyberg Place at 3.45pm, Wednesday 20 October.

PSA: MFAT Must Reverse Decision To Remove Te Reo

MFAT's decision to remove te reo from correspondence before new Ministers are sworn in risks undermining the important progress the public sector has made in honouring te Tiriti. "We are very disappointed in what is a backward decision - it simply seems to be a Ministry bowing to the racist rhetoric we heard on the election campaign trail," says Marcia Puru.
