The University of Auckland Vice-Chancellor Dr John Hood, in commenting on the granting of AIT’s university status, said this is the beginning of AIT’s journey towards its aspiration to be a world-class university of technology.

"They will be delighted they have achieved this milestone. They now face the challenge of developing their teaching and research to the highest internationally benchmarked standards.

"The alliance agreement between the two organisations commits us to pursue jointly the creation of a high quality, differentiated tertiary sector," said Dr Hood.

The University and AIT alliance agreement in June enshrined the principles of co-operation and differentiation. It recognised AIT’s aspiration to be a university of technology of high international repute, just as it recognised the University of Auckland’s aspirations to be a research-led university of the highest international standards.
