Auckland Central Library Opens Revamped G-Floor

Central City Library Opens Refurbished Ground Floor

From this week on, the one million annual visitors to the Central City Library will be able to fully enjoy the benefits of the newly refurbished Library. All of the Ground Floor is now "open" marking the completion of all the new public areas.

Since 1994, the Central City Library has been in the process of transformation a major building upgrade was needed to enable the Library to deliver world-class facilities to the community it serves. The project, managed by City Property, has been completed on time, within budget and with minimal disruption to Library services.

City Librarian Barbara Birkbeck says all the Library’s loyal customers have been remarkably patient during this process of change, "Now is the time for the people of Auckland to come and experience the difference".

The final phase of the refurbishment project encompassing a conference suite, staff and administration areas will be completed in March 2000 and major celebrations are planned to mark this milestone in the provision of exceptional facilities for Auckland City at this time.
