Look To 2020 - Growing To Plan

Auckland City Council - City Scene

The 1999 Review of the Auckland City Strategic Plan is completed, ready to be launched for public consultation on Sunday, November 21. It contains a vision for the future of the city, and the direction and options for funding Council's activities. Auckland City's first strategic plan was released in 1993. Since then it has been regularly reviewed by the council to make sure its contents continue to meet the changing needs of the community and business..

The community was closely involved in the preparation of the 1999 plan. Work began with the VisionForum in November 1998, followed by input from 400 community representatives, who were invited to think about the future of Auckland and their vision for Auckland in the year 2020.

These views formed the basis for the Council's strategies and now the next step is for people to comment on the plan that has evolved. As young people have such a stake in the future, a special competition will be held in conjunction with MAI FM to focus their attention on the Plan.

An eight-page summary of the draft Strategic Plan and funding options will be published in next week's 'City Scene' immediately after its launch. This issue will have a submission form and advice on where to get further information.
