CHAMBER RESPONSE TO CTU LEADER
Auckland Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Michael Barnett responded to today’s CTU Media Release headed “Stop behaving destructively, CTU tells business sector”.
Mr Barnett said making generalised unproven accusations against business is mischievous and counter-productive nonsense. “All it does is reinforce the growing doubts of business about the true level of commitment unions have to “good faith” bargaining under the new employment relations legislation.”
Business people generate the wealth and the jobs that give New Zealand’s its living standards. “Without productive, successful business this country goes nowhere.”
As a major partner in the creation of this country’s wealth and employment, it is obvious why business must promote its interests and concerns to the government concerning the Employment Relations Bill. “To not do so would be behaving destructively.”
If the Government is smart, it will listen to the concerns of business and work them through constructively and unemotionally. “It is New Zealand that must be the winner from this process – not unions and not employers – but the nation.”
