Symantec pcANYWHERE A Boost
Symantec pcANYWHERE boosts remote support
capabilities;
becomes first remote control product to be
certified for Windows 2000
“Certified" classification identifies pcANYWHERE as enterprise tool for lowering Total Cost of Ownership
AUCKLAND– June 13, 2000 – Symantec New Zealand has announced pcAnywhere plus for Tivoli Enterprise, a product that will boost remote support capabilities for Tivoli system administrators and help desk personnel. In addition, Symantec has announced that pcAnywhere 9.2, the leading remote control and file transfer system for mobile users and the IT professionals, is the first remote control product to receive Windows 2000 Certification.
“Symantec is dedicated to providing enterprise users and administrators with products and management tools that support system operations and enhance productivity,” said Richard Batchelar, Country Manager, Symantec New Zealand. “We are pleased to announce that our award winning pcAnywhere product is now available for Tivoli as part of our family of security and support solutions.
“We are also delighted that pcAnywhere has been certified as a Windows 2000 solution. Not only does this indicate our continued tradition of market and technology leadership, but it means that IT professionals can now count on pcAnywhere as a tool to help ease Windows 2000 deployment.”
pcAnywhere joins Tivoli Ready family
Now
available for Tivoli, pcAnywhere Plus offers Tivoli
Enterprise administrators fast and reliable performance.
System administrators and help desk personnel
can:
create rules on Tivoli’s console that serve
as the foundation for increased reliability and security.
For example, if end users are attempting to run pcAnywhere
in a non-secure manner, Tivoli will be able to locate the
pcAnywhere host and automatically shut it down;
manage local and remote systems via Tivoli Enterprise to
provide support over the network and with low-bandwidth and
RAS connections;
support any managed Windows
desktop directly from the Service Desk console.
“By joining the Tivoli Ready product partner family, Symantec has gained admission to an important group of leading edge technology companies,” said Steve Burke, General Manager, Tivoli Systems Australia and New Zealand. “Adding Tivoli Enterprise functionality to pcAnywhere offers Symantec customers innovative remote management solutions and the highest quality service, support and innovation.”
Tivoli Ready products are classified as those that have met key integration standards for manageability by Tivoli management software. To achieve Tivoli Ready certification, partners can either integrate their products with Tivoli software or embed the Tivoli Management Agent (TMA) within their solutions.
In addition to support for Tivoli, pcAnywhere also integrates with other system and desktop managed solutions such as Microsoft SMS and CA Unicenter TNG.
pcAnywhere gains Windows 2000 Certification
In
order to qualify for Windows 2000 Certification, pcAnywhere
9.2 was engaged in a rigorous qualification process designed
to assist customers in identifying those applications that
meet new levels of accessibility and offer smooth migration
to Windows 2000. pcAnywhere underwent a number of complex
changes, including the incorporation a new installer,
utilising Active Directory Service and adding full support
for long file names.
A GartnerGroup study titled “The Windows 2000 Logo: More Teeth Added” emphasised that Microsoft’s new logo program specifications are so strict that a number of applications are unable to qualify. The report also noted that using logo-certified software reduces the cost of desktop support and downtime and facilitates Windows 2000’s Zero Administration Windows (ZAW) capabilities, thereby reducing the total cost of ownership even more for enterprise customers.
