A comprehensive resource designed to comply primarily with the Technology curriculum as well as meeting the criteria of a number of other curricular ie science, art, language, social studies and health was launched in Auckland by the Minister for the Environment, the Hon. Marian Hobbs, Thursday, 31st August.

Funded by the Minister's Sustainable Management Fund in partnership with the Packaging Council of New Zealand (Inc), PAC-IT addresses some long held misconceptions about the role of packaging in our society.

Aimed at teachers of years 1-10 the resource is multi-faceted and includes a 15 page Teacher Manual, 32 page Activity Booklet, video with clips of specific packaging materials and case studies as well as a range of packaging samples.

In addition the PAC-IT website has available teacher guide illustrations available as PDF files for downloading, links to other resources and an email discussion group, etc.

Packaging, is directly co-related to standards of living in a modern community and the programme demonstrates the benefits it offers as well as addressing the environmental effects of its waste.

Professional Development Workshops are planned nationwide and will commence in the Auckland and Christchurch areas from early September.
