PeopleSoft Unveils Portal Solutions

Portals to Deliver Role-Based Content to Customers, Employees and Suppliers

AUCKLAND, October 11, 2000 – Customers, employees and suppliers can now collaborate efficiently by simply signing on to a PeopleSoft portal.

Today PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq: PSFT) unveiled PeopleSoft Portal Solutions, portal applications that provide people with information that is relevant to their specific roles within an organisation.

According to Andrew Barkla, Vice President PeopleSoft Asia Pacific, the new Enterprise Portals are an extension of the company’s recently launched, new generation eBusiness applications suite - PeopleSoft 8 - and their release further strengthens PeopleSoft’s claim as the enterprise industry’s only pure internet company.

“Through PeopleSoft 8, customers, employees and suppliers are able to, for the first time, conduct commerce in a seamless environment,” he said. “The new enterprise portals are a collection of four portal solutions that allow businesses to deliver role-based content to employees, empowering them to make fast and effective decisions, and enabling collaboration with suppliers to reduce inventory turns and enhance relationships.”

Mr Barkla says the solutions are pre-built and leverage eBusiness application data about customers, employees and suppliers to deliver a truly personal internet experience.

PeopleSoft Portal Solutions include the PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal, the Customer Portal, Employee Portal and Supplier Portal. The PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal serves as the development foundation for the audience-specific portals and is built on the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture, the industry’s most open and scalable eBusiness platform.

“As the market matures, enterprise portals will integrate operational applications with other functions such as knowledge management, collaboration, business intelligence solutions and other transactional systems,” said David Folger of the META Group. “PeopleSoft’s portal addresses these other functions as well as providing a portal interface to its own applications.”

In addition to providing information for customers, employees, and suppliers the portals will deliver a web experience tailored to an individual’s specific information needs. The portal can dynamically change its look and feel based on business rules, user profiles, and roles. For example, advertising content can be targeted at customers based on buying history; employees can see different content as they transfer departments; and users can see translated content based on their preferred language.

PeopleSoft Portal Solutions’ open and flexible technology will allow organisations to aggregate any internet content such as XML, Java and HTML. The solutions will offer customers a quicker return on investment with such features as sample roles; pre-built navigational hierarchy; search key words for enterprise content; company news and events; company directory; and multi-lingual search capabilities from Verity.

The portals are also expected to include integrated work lists and to-do’s that can subscribe to XML messages from other workflow or alert systems. This will allow users to go to their personalised home page to see alerts aggregated from all their enterprise systems.

PeopleSoft Consulting will provide pre-packaged implementation services for the PeopleSoft Portal Solutions. This will allow customers to quickly deploy the portals, which will be generally available in December of 2000.
