Texan Property Guru To Speak At NZPI Conference

Professor John Baen, a Texan property guru is coming to New Zealand this week to speak at the New Zealand Property Institute conference in Christchurch on May 16-18.

"Professor Baen will give a key note address on "The Impact of the New Economy on Property", and a joint session on "International Property Trends". It is clear that technology, globalisation, and changes in some fundamentals of economic and social behavior will impact on property. Professor Baen will bring a fascinating and international perspective which will be very worthwhile," New Zealand Property Institute CEO, Conor English, said today.

The Texan joins Australian Professor Geoffrey Blainey and recently arrived Irishman, William McClusky, in the excellent international lineup at the conference.

Professor Baen is the Professor of Real Estate, University of Texas, College of Business Administration. He completed a PH.D (Real Estate Development and Planning) at the Texas A & M University in 1982 and completed additional graduate work in finance at the University of Texas at Dallas, and postgraduate courses at the Kellogg Centre, University of Michigan.

From 1989 - 1992 John took extended leave to be professor of real estate, valuation and property management at Lincoln University in Canterbury.

From 1972 to 1975 John was senior vice-president of Claude R. McClennaghan Commercial Real Estate, Dallas, Texas - a company with 26 associates who brokered and/or purchased investment properties throughout Texas and Colorado. He has been a certified real estate appraiser and a Texas real estate broker since 1976.

Apart from his teaching presentation, public speaking and writing abilities, John has maintained expertise in the areas of real estate investments, real estate transactions, contracts, agency issues, brokerage, valuation, property management, finance and evaluation of environmental impacts on values. Recognition of this wide-ranging credibility has led to him being accredited as an approved witness and consultant by a number of bodies and he has at times been called into legal proceedings as an expert witness.
