Freedom Air Lifts Conditions On Cheap Fares

Media release
18 July 2001

FREEDOM AIR TO OFFER ONE-WAY FARES AND
REMOVE ONE-NIGHT STAY FARE CONDITIONS

Freedom Air today announced major changes to free up its domestic air services – introducing new one-way fares and removing requirements for a one-night minimum stay. The value-based airline, which has been inundated with demand since launching domestic services in May, is due to introduce the new conditions from tomorrow

Freedom Air has till now only offered return fares and all fares have had the requirement for a one-night minimum stay. The new lead-in one-way fares are Auckland-Christchurch $89, Auckland-Wellington $75 and Wellington-Christchurch $59 when booked through the airline’s call centre, 0800 600 500.

Further savings on the new one-way fares can be made by booking online at www.freedomair.com. Freedom Air from June 1 moved to funnel huge demand for flights through its website by offering the cheapest fares online, taking pressure off its call centre and allowing the airline to keep costs down.

Wayne Dodge, Freedom Air general manager/vice-president, says the airline is delighted to announce the latest changes. “The introduction of one-way fares and the removal of one-night minimum stays will make our services far more accessible to New Zealanders on the move,” he says. “People have already embraced our friendly, no-fuss service and we believe these new changes will give them even more opportunities to travel.”

Dodge says value-based airlines are all about delivering safe, reliable and friendly service at an affordable price, as well as being vigilant on costs. By offering the cheapest fares on the internet, Freedom Air is able to manage demand and reduce processing costs.
