Manufacturing Sales Increase In June Quarter

Economic Survey of Manufacturing: June 2001 Quarter

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales for the June 2001 quarter increased by $787 million or 5.1 percent compared with the March 2001 quarter, according to Statistics New Zealand.

The trend in manufacturing sales has been rising since the December 1998 quarter and has increased 30.3 per cent over this period. Nine out of 10 industries recorded higher seasonally adjusted sales in the June 2001 quarter compared with the March 2001 quarter. If the effects of price changes are removed, manufacturing sales increased by 4.2 per cent in the June 2001 quarter compared with the March 2001 quarter.

The value of finished goods stocks was 11.1 per cent higher as at 30 June 2001 compared with 30 June 2000. Closing stocks of raw materials were 8.3 per cent higher than at 30 June 2000.
