Txt Messaging Reaches New Markets

From sports updates to daily inspirational religious messages, text messaging has become an important tool in the overall marketing mix of brands, products and services.

Wellington mobile Internet company, Synapse Group, says text messaging is increasingly being used by organisations to reach target audiences in a direct, interactive and cost-effective way, and its future looks promising.

Synapse Group Chief Executive, Mark Loveard, says his company has provided a range of promotional and entertainment-based text messaging solutions to clients, customising its own PromoTxt technology.

“PromoTxt creates a level of novelty that existing and potentially new customers really relate to and respond to,” says Mr Loveard.

“It’s a highly effective way of supporting and adding value to other advertising, marketing and communications vehicles.

“Marketers across a wide range of organisations are showing a willingness to adopt this technology and we’re able to customise a promotional texting solution to fit with an organisation’s broader mass-media marketing strategy.”

Mr Loveard says PromoTxt is proving valuable as a marketing device, as it’s instant, personal, interactive and, above all, highly measurable in terms of client or customer response.

PromoTxt provides a unique means to capture valuable customer usage and demographic information enhancing the value of future customer contact.

Via its ‘opt-in’ functionality, PromoTxt can be used by customers to request information about a promotion, register for specials and receive unique personalised messages.

Alternatively, messages can be sent advising customers that they have been entered into a prize draw or to notify them that they are a winner.

Mr Loveard says PromoTxt is highly configurable, providing solutions from simple broadcast messages to participating customers to highly interactive short message service dialogues – such as multi-choice quiz games.

To date, PromoTxt has been used to deliver a range of interactive text messaging services from answering radio DJ’s questions and receiving real-time sports scores through to allowing TV viewers to vote for their choice of a Saturday night movie.

Synapse Group bases its PromoTxt solutions on SMS infrastructure from its European partner Peramon Technology, standardised on the Java development platform. Promotxt is highly scalable with a standard installation supporting more than 120,000 messages an hour .

The Group’s work was recently recognised by being chosen to be part of the elite Auckland-based ‘Icehouse’ - New Zealand’s leading business accelerator for high tech companies.

Synapse has nine staff providing creative communication solutions and strategic consulting. The company can provide marketing managers with valuable customer building support as well as technological solutions. The company has offices in Wellington and Auckland.
