Feds Off To Cairo

Federated Farmer's President Alistair Polson and Chief Executive Tony St Clair depart for the 35th International Federation of Agricultural Producers World Farmers' Congress in Gizah, Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt tomorrow.

The theme of the conference is Regional Economic Integration and the role of farmer organisations.

The Congress provides the opportunity for world farm leaders to meet at an important time, with the recent launch of the Doha Development Round of WTO Trade Negotiations and the forthcoming World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg later this year.

The Congress will debate policy covering food safety and quality, and industrial concentration in the agri-food chain. Keynote addresses will cover the topics of rural poverty, sustainable agriculture and food security, and agriculture and the WTO trade negotiations.

Commodity groups will also meet. Alistair Polson will provide the Meat and Feeds Commodity group with an update on policy development in the meat and feeds sector and the communication and promotion of New Zealand's meat industry.

Tony St Clair will be attending the Dairy, and the Grains and Oilseeds Commodity Group meetings.
