Dairy Farmers of NZ welcome SFO Investigation

Dairy Farmers of New Zealand Chairman Kevin Wooding has welcomed the handing over of investigations into the $50 million of alleged illegal milk protein exports to the Serious Fraud Office.

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Food Safety Authority have handed over investigations into alleged irregularities in the exporting of dairy products by a Tauranga based exporting company, South Pacific Distributors.

"Dairy farmers will be pleased that an independent body has been bought in and will hopefully bring the issue to a close, said Mr Wooding.

"It is pleasing that Fonterra has offered to assist the SFO with its investigations if necessary.

"This issue has been a dark cloud hanging over the dairy industry for a number of months and we all look forward to the issue being resolved, Mr Wooding concluded.
