Singapore Airlines Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

Singapore Airlines has been inducted into TTG Asia’s Travel Awards Hall of Fame at the 14th Travel Awards 2002. This special award was received by Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice-President Southeast Asia, Mr Teh Ping Choon, at an awards ceremony held in Bangkok yesterday.

According to TTG Asia, “the purpose of establishing a Travel Awards Hall of Fame is to find a permanent home for winners which have won the Travel Awards, which began in 1989, for ten years”. Singapore Airlines has been voted Best Airline in the annual Travel Awards for 13 consecutive years, from 1989 to 2001.

TTG Asia confirmed: “Travel Awards Hall of Fame winners will no longer be voted in the annual Travel Awards as they have been elevated to the Hall of Fame, and this will inspire others to greatness, which is the very essence of why the Travel Awards is organized”.

SilkAir, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, was voted Best Regional Airline at the Travel Awards. The Annual Travel Awards are presented to outstanding members of the travel trade industry within the Asia Pacific.

Singapore Airlines continued to be the choice of TIME Magazine readers for the second year running in TIME’s 2002 Readers’ Travel Choice Awards. Singapore Airlines came out tops in the Preferred Airline category, and the Airline’s Frequent Flyer Programme, KrisFlyer, was voted Most Popular Airline Frequent Flyer Programme.

According to TIME, the Awards “not only acknowledge excellence in service provided throughout the year, but are also a testament of savvy brand management”. TIME conducted a survey of its readers over a two-month period earlier this year, and respondents were made up of “an elite group of business travellers and decision-makers in Asia”. Thousands of respondents took part in this year’s survey.

Singapore Airlines was voted Best Scheduled Airline at the recent 5th Telegraph Travel Awards. 20,000 readers of the UK’s The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph took part in this survey - the biggest annual survey of the British travelling public.
