Palmerston North gains additional Trade NZ Support

Palmerston North gains additional Trade New Zealand support

Palmerston North's growing importance as an exporting region has been recognised by Trade New Zealand, which has appointed a second Regional Account Manager in its Palmerston North office.

Steve Jones joined Trade New Zealand in September, and is dedicated solely to the burgeoning education sector.

Mr Jones' clients include education providers in Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu, East Coast, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa and Horowhenua regions. The role covers all types of institution in the sector - Tertiary, Secondary and Private - including English Language.

Mr Jones also works with regional cluster groups to promote the educational benefits of specific regions to overseas students.

Mr Jones was formerly Marketing and Development Manager for Te Manawa, Palmerston North's Science Centre, Museum and Art Gallery complex.

Senior Regional Account Manager Mark Hargreaves says feedback from education clients has been positive.

"While the education sector has shown considerable growth in recent times, this has generally be confined to the larger centres and there remains a large number of regional institutions that are only now commencing a dedicated strategy in international education. Steve’s appointment means these efforts can be coordinated and developed, a highly valuable service.”

The office also has a new regional co-ordinator, Michelle Horsley, who started at the end of October, and has moved premises to accommodate the expanding team from the Square Centre to 164 Broadway Avenue in Palmerston North.
