Fletcher Challenge Forests to Introduce Timber Labelling for CCA

Auckland, 1 May 2003 – Fletcher Challenge Forests will shortly introduce detailed product labelling for its CCA treated timber products.

Labelling is one of several measures recommended for further investigation in the Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) report on CCA treated timber released today.

General Manager, Tom Nickels, says the initiative has been under consideration for several months, and is in line with the Company’s policy to maximise consumer safety and information. Mr Nickels said the labelling would provide consumers with accessible and relevant information on the Company’s products, in addition to the safe handling information already available on its consumer website (www.origin.co.nz) and at point-of-sale through merchant distributors.

Mr Nickels said FCF welcomed the ERMA report finding that there was no evidence that CCA treated timber is a risk to health. “Our Company has always supported a review by ERMA as the appropriate authority on this product. We will continue to play an active and cooperative role in any further work in this area, or in any other health and safety issues” Mr Nickels said.
