Whakatane paperboard business to take 12 days off

Carter Holt Harvey's Whakatane paperboard business to take 12 days down time

Carter Holt Harvey today announced that its paperboard business in Whakatane will take a twelve day market shut effective from 6.00pm on Friday 23 May.

Grant Stinson, CE for CHH Whakatane, said that conditions in the market were making it uneconomical to run the mill.

“The SARS virus has impacted on our order streams in key Asian markets. Together with the high energy costs we have been suffering this means that our normal alternative markets are not profitable.”

Employees at the Whakatane business were informed of the impending shut on Friday of last week. Key customers are being informed and on-site inventory levels will ensure that they are not affected by the shut.

The mill will reopen on 4 June.
