Vehicle registrations well up for June

Vehicle registrations for June were up 23.5 percent on last year, according to figures from the Land Transport Safety Authority.

There were 25,464 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles this June, compared with 20,621 in June 2002.

Total first-time car registrations were up 26.5 percent, from 15,851 in June 2002 to 20,046 last month. New car registrations were up 14.8 percent, from 5,754 to 6,607, while used import registrations rose 33.1 percent from 10,097 to 13,439.

The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Toyota with 26.2 percent, ahead of Ford with 16.6 percent and Holden with 11.4 percent.

The three most popular new car models for the month were the Ford Falcon, Toyota RAV4 and Holden Commodore.

Truck registrations were up 12.1 percent, from 2,801 in June 2002 to 3,141 this year. Trailer registrations were up 12.8 percent, from 1,238 to 1,396 while motorcycle registrations (over 60cc) rose from 231 to 269. Tractor registrations fell from 188 to 156, while bus registrations were down from 81 to 80.
