ANZ to open unique student branch at University of Canterbury

ANZ today announced it would open a new branch at the University of Canterbury, as part of a national programme to improve access to banking services for customers.

The Christchurch branch is the first of a number of new branches ANZ plans to open in New Zealand during the next two years.

The decision to open a new ANZ branch at the University of Canterbury later this month follows discussions with the University of Canterbury Students' Association (UCSA) regarding the need for banking services tailored to suit the requirements of the university's students and faculty.

ANZ Local CEO in Christchurch Mr Colin Mansbridge said ANZ had worked in partnership with the UCSA over several months to design distinctive banking facilities to service the university's 13,000 staff and students.

"We listened to students and in consultation with the UCSA, developed a banking concept with a unique look and feel which will to appeal to our younger customers and is a real break away from traditional-style bank premises," said Mr Mansbridge.

"We believe the upbeat design, featuring bright colours and contemporary furniture - combined with opening hours to suit students and faculty - will present a fun environment in which customers can manage their banking," he said.

Scheduled to open near the end of this month, the branch will offer flexible banking services, including phone banking, account and credit card opening, insurance, lending and financial planning services. Cash withdrawals and deposits will be handled via an ATM and secure deposit facility.

President of the UCSA, Mr Richard Neal, said based on feedback from students and faculty it was clear having a local bank branch played an important role in helping them with their financial needs.

"The aim of the UCSA is to make life easier for everyone on campus, so we're pleased ANZ listened to our requirements and worked with us to develop banking facilities to suit the university lifestyle," said Mr Neal.

The ANZ branch will be located on the ground floor of the UCSA building, and will be open from 10 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday. The ATM and secure deposit facility will be available 24 hours, seven days a week.
