2003 House Of The Year Winners Announced

2003 House Of The Year Winners Announced

Builders downed tool belts and hard hats, and donned cummerbunds and bow ties, to attend the Registered Master Builders 2003 House of the Year and Commercial Awards gala dinner at Auckland’s Sheraton Hotel last night.

In front of a capacity crowd of over 540 guests, including Prime Minister Helen Clark, the Supreme Award went to Christchurch building company Clive Barrington Construction Ltd, for a three bedroom house based in the idyllic setting of Clearwater Resort.

National judges Graham Coe, Joan Harnett-Kindly, and Rolly Adams described the Supreme Award winner as a unique house which exhibits an outstanding example of construction skills, while illustrating the close co-operation between the owners and everyone involved.

Builders from Orewa to Otago were also honored as winners in the 10 new home and renovation categories, the six Lifestyle Awards, and the two new Commercial Awards.

Registered Master Builders Federation Chief Executive, Chris Preston, said he rarely envies the role of the judges, but this year the task was even harder than previous years.

“The fact that the national winners came from a wide range of regions with such diverse styles of workmanship and design, demonstrates that registered master builders are delivering excellence in everything that they build,” said Chris Preston.

The Registered Master Builders 2003 House of the Year is managed by the Registered Master Builders Federation and supported by principal sponsors PlaceMakers and James Hardie; Lifestyle Award sponsors Winstone Wallboards (Gib Living Solutions), Tasman Insulation (Pink Batts), Fletcher Challenge Forests (Origin Timeframe), Mico Bathrooms (the showroom operation of Mico Plumbing and Pipelines), and NewBuild Home Finance Limited (NewBuild Home Finance Plan); Commercial Award sponsors Winstone Wallboards (GIB) and QBE Insurance; and event sponsor the Building Industry Authority.

A one-hour House of the Year special will feature the winners on TV One in late November.
