Public Show Support For Postie Day Off

For Immediate Release 23 October 2003

PUBLIC SHOW SUPPORT FOR POSTIE DAY OFF

Following overwhelming public support in favour of giving Posties Easter Saturday off, New Zealand Post confirmed it will not be delivering mail next Easter Saturday, April 10, 2004.

Just over 90% of the 220,000 customers that responded to a nationwide postal survey in May said they were in favour of giving Posties Easter Saturday off next year.

Customers were asked if they thought that giving Posties a break over Easter was a good thing to do, if it concerned them if their mail was not delivered on Easter Saturday and if they thought New Zealand Post should do this again.

In addition, two separate independent surveys conducted by ACNielsen confirmed the findings with 96% of residential customers and 98% of business customers either supportive or unconcerned about not getting mail on Easter Saturday.

New Zealand Post Group Manager Letters, Peter Fenton said that the early notice was being made to give customers and Posties as much time as possible to make any alternative arrangements.

"While Easter does seem a long way off, it is important we give both our customers and our Posties as much notice as possible to plan for the period," said Mr Fenton.

Further details concerning delivery closing dates will be advised closer to Easter.
