Census Test Day 18 November

Census Test Day 18 November

Preparation for the 2006 Census of Population and Dwellings has begun, with questionnaire procedures being tested nationwide and a census test day on Tuesday 18 November 2003.

Statistics New Zealand announced today that the test would offer most of the more than 8,000 householders the choice of providing their answers in traditional paper format or electronically.

"The overall objective is to streamline the form-filling process for respondents. Some people will want to complete their forms electronically, while others will prefer paper. We are looking for the 'best fit' for people," said 2006 Census Manager Nancy McBeth.

Statistics New Zealand staff, carrying clear identification, will deliver forms to homes in Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, Nelson and Canterbury from Tuesday 4 November to Tuesday 18 November.

"Statistics New Zealand would like to thank all those people who are helping to ensure the success of the 2006 Census," said Nancy McBeth.
