Compac Wins US Order To Boost Apple Business

US apple packing supremos Stemilt are the latest in what is amounting to a Washington State stampede to Compac Sorting Equipment's door, this week signing an order for a six lane 50 drop sizer to handle the company's organic production.

It follows hard on the successes the NZ -based company is notching up in the US - and in Washington State in particular -where 38% of that state's apple crop is now handled by Compac's sizer or retrofit technology.

According to Dave Buys, Compac's Executive Director, Washington takes its position as 'apple capital' of the world very seriously and is renowned for its demanding sorting requirements.

"We've been fortunate in having some high profile successes in the US, like the Broetje installation - believed to be the world's longest sizer and color sorting machine. The 87 long metre monster, with 12 lanes and 58 sorting destinations, is double the average size of conventional units and now in the final stages of installation."

Another of the larger scale sales gained by Compac last year was the supply of two machines to Hansen Fruit at Yakima (Washington's main apple centre) . It was, says Dave Buys, an incredibly smooth start-up and a perfect example of Compac's sizer equipment combined with (distributor) Van Doren Sales' peripherals to provide a complete turnkey solution.

Compac Sorting Equipment Ltd (CSE) was established in 1984 to supply fruit grading equipment to the domestic (New Zealand) kiwifruit industry. Since then, it has grown to become an internationally recognised supplier of leading edge technology to the fresh produce industry.
