Domino's Pizza to turn up the heat in Palmerston North and Hastings
Domino's Pizza's first two franchise stores open this week in Palmerston North and Hastings. They are also the first two stores to open outside the Wellington region.
Palmerston North's Mayor Mark Bell-Booth and Mayor Lawrence Yule of Hastings will cut the first pizzas and unveil plaques in their respective cities commemorating the two openings on Tuesday.
"Provincial New Zealand has suffered from a restricted choice and higher prices since the corporate buy-out of Eagle Boys Pizza by Pizza Hut over four years ago," Rowan Hodge, Domino's national franchise manager said today.
"Domino's is committed to rolling out news stores throughout the regions. In addition to these two stores, there are a number more already in the pipeline. "Manawatu and Hawkes Bay residents are in for a real treat. Not only will they have access to quality, fresh, made-to-order pizza to pick up at the store, but Domino's are also the delivery experts as well. They will deliver piping hot pizza using Hotcell technology. Delivery bags have heating elements that enable to heat to be retained, ensuring that delivered pizza retains its fresh out of the oven flavour.
"Pizza prices at the new stores will be real value for money. Before Domino's came on the scene New Zealanders were paying up to $19.00 for a single pizza. Pizza prices have tumbled since we arrived, now customers won't pay more than $11.95 for a pick-up pizza, and often, the price will be much less.
"The local owners will deliver on their promise to turn up the heat in Palmerston North and Hastings. Only a local owner really means it when they say 'enjoy your pizza'", Rowan Hodge said.
The Domino's story in New Zealand is remarkable - the first store only opened in July in Wellington's Johnsonville.
Since then eight new stores have opened in Porirua, Petone, Northland, Upper Hutt, in the Wellington CBD, Wainuiomata, Lower Hutt and Paraparaumu.
Domino's plans to have 60 stores across New Zealand over the next two years.
