First China Trade Fair Seminar In Christchurch

Media Release For immediate release

26th February 2004

First China Trade Fair Seminar To Be Held In Christchurch

The first South Island seminar promoting the largest Annual Trade Fair in China will be held in Christchurch next week. The fair is already familiar to Auckland businesses but this will be the first time that delegates from the fair have traveled to Christchurch and is an excellent opportunity for South Island businesses to become involved and form new relationships with China.

The Chinese Export Commodities Fair (CECF), also called Canton Fair, is held twice a year in Guangzhou, in April and October since inaugurated in 1957. It is China's largest trade fair of the highest level, in terms of attendance (over 10,000 companies) and in turnover (20 Billion USD). CECF will exhibit five categories: Industrial products, Textiles and Garments, foodstuff and Medicines, Gifts and Consumer Goods, in 35 sections, in over 27000 international standard booths.

China's best foreign trade companies along with factories, scientific research institutions, foreign investment companies, and private businesses that have good credibility and sound financial capabilities are only invited to exhibit. Exporting opportunities to China is definitely possible as well as other business opportunities at the fair.

The focus of the seminar next week organised by the Embassy of the P.R.China (New Zealand) and Chinese Entrepreneur Association of New Zealand, is to introduce the fair to South Island businesses and inform about applying to this invitation-only fair, either as an exhibitor or Visitor. The guest speaker will be Mr Chen Ba Rong, Vice Director of Chinese Export Commodities Fair.

The Venue is confirmed as The George Hotel 50 Park Terrace, Christchurch on Saturday 6th March at 11.00am. Registration is required before attending and can be made by contacting Eric Yuan on 366 5988 or eric.yuan@nzmirror.com.
