Hanmer Springs nominated for Tourism Awards again

Media Release: Tuesday, 25 May 2004

Hanmer Springs nominated for Tourism Awards again

Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve has made the short-list for the New Zealand Tourism Awards for the third time in four years.

“We are delighted to have been nominated for the NZ Tourism Awards again,” says Graeme Abbot, General Manager of Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve.

Last year, Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve won the People’s Choice Tourism Award, one of the categories in the New Zealand Tourism Awards.

The popular north Canterbury attraction has been selected in the Visitor Activities and Attractions category this year. In 2003, Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve was nominated in the Tourism Marketing category, and in 2003 and 2001 it was in the Visitor Attractions category.

The yearly New Zealand Tourism Awards recognise and reward excellence in the tourism industry. They represent the highest possible accolade for New Zealand tourism operators and are an opportunity to celebrate excellence and encourage continuous improvement in an ever-changing business environment.

The short-listing follows strong ongoing growth in visitor numbers to Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve. Visitor numbers were up 16 per cent in the seven months ended January this year.

“More tourists are choosing to travel around New Zealand by themselves,” says Graeme Abbot. “As a result, they are discovering Hanmer Springs, and they like what they find.”
