Waikato to have biggest representation ever

16 July 2004

Waikato to have biggest representation ever at ‘meetings 2004’ trade show

A contingent of five Waikato conference operators will attend ‘Meetings 2004’ in Christchurch this month, in what is the largest number ever to represent the region at this conference and incentive marketing trade show.

The group includes two marketing personnel from SKYCITY Hamilton who will introduce, for the first time, the complex’s new full service function centre to representatives at the event being held at the Christchurch Convention Centre July 21 –22.

SKYCITY Hamilton’s General Manager Operations, Phil Keber, says he is pleased SKYCITY will be part of the largest team ever to promote Hamilton as a destination for meetings and conventions.

“Meetings 2004 is an ideal vehicle through which to profile the new SKYCITY Hamilton Function Centre. Since opening the facility in April this year, we have received steady bookings for a wide range of function events, with forward bookings out to 2006.

“We are looking forward to joining with other Waikato Operators including Novotel Tainui Hamilton and the Waikato Convention Bureau, at this significant trade event, to further encourage business related travel and increased visitor numbers to the Waikato region,” said Mr Keber.

Since its first event, a seated dinner for 230 ‘Balloons Over Waikato 2004’ guests, SKYCITY Hamilton’s new function centre has attracted a variety of business from conferences for top corporates, including Telecom, Alcatel and Brian Perry Civil, to local events and parties.

“We have already hosted everything from weddings, roadshows and cocktail parties to conferences and product launches and have received very positive feedback from our clients and their guests. Upcoming functions include mid-Winter Christmas parties, school balls, and functions linked to the Boathouse 8s The Great Race,” said Mr Keber.

Located beneath the existing SKYCITY Hamilton complex, the SKYCITY Hamilton Function Centre features two function rooms overlooking a paved promenade along the riverbank.

The function rooms can be combined to cater for up to 240 people banquet style, 320 theatre style and 400 standing guests. It includes new catering facilities as well as utilising SKYCITY Hamilton’s restaurant kitchen.

Both rooms provide natural light with river views. The paved area overlooking the river provides a pleasant area for refreshment breaks during conferences, or for outdoor hospitality during fine weather.

Conference packages start from $37.50 per person per day (minimum of 30 delegates) including conference room hire, tea and coffee, morning and afternoon tea, lunch (at the Post Buffet Restaurant), equipment, $5.00 gaming voucher per delegate and discounted parking. In addition SKYCITY Hamilton’s Function Centre offers a range of breakfast, dinner and cocktails options for delegates.

For conference bookings at the new function centre please contact SKYCITY Hamilton on 07- 834-4900, fax 07-834-4901 or functions@skycityhamilton.co.nz
