AA announces new joint venture with JEVIC

The AA is joining forces with JEVIC (Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Center Co Ltd) - a Japan based pre-shipment vehicle inspection agency, to help address increasing consumer concern over odometer testing of imported used vehicles.

According to Stella Stocks, General Manager AA Technical Services, odometer tampering is a serious issue for the wider New Zealand public and the AA is acknowledging these concerns in forming the alliance with JEVIC,

"We have a real responsibility to give our Members peace of mind when it comes to the vehicle they have purchased," Ms Stocks said. "Being secure in the knowledge of the authenticity of a vehicles mileage is a fundamental part of purchasing a used vehicle.

"JEVIC have earned a credible reputation and we know they share the AA's commitment to providing the best customer service."

From October 1st vehicles certified in Japan by JEVIC will carry the AA/JEVIC odometer check certification; these vehicles will be the only ones guaranteed by the AA as having accurate odometer readings.

From early in the New Year AA Members will be able to have their odometer checked at any AA Vehicle inspection Centre, regardless of the age and mileage of the vehicle, and the source from where it was purchased.

Tampered odometers have proven to be a really hot topic in recent years, and the concern has only grown as more used vehicles are imported into the country and purchased. We are a nation of drivers and this year New Zealand is expected to import up to 180,000 used vehicles and 95,000 new vehicles.
