Cromwell Olive Growers Take Home $500,000 House

31 October 2004

Cromwell Olive Growers Take Home $500,000 House & Land Package With Winning Wheel & Lucky Powerball Winner Scoops $3.8 Million

For the second week in a row, last night's Lotto Winning Wheel winner took home $500,000 when Cromwell woman Colleen King won a half million house and land package in Wellington last night, Trevor Hall, Chief Executive of New Zealand Lotteries Commission, confirmed today.

Mrs King's husband, Wallace, flew to Wellington with her and spun the wheel on his wife's behalf. After a nervous wait, Colleen said she "just couldn't believe it."

"It's just amazing. Any prize would have been great, but this is fantastic," she said.

The Kings, who are olive growers, were ecstatic with their win. The ticket belonged to Mrs King but Mr King was sent to claim it. They have lived in Cromwell the last 14 years and originally come from Invercargill. Mrs King works as a care giver at the Cromwell hospital.

"We're just so excited for the Kings," said Mr Hall. "It was fantastic to see winners take home $500,000 prizes two weeks in a row."

The Kings weren't the only lucky Lotto players last night. A ticket bought at Mt Wellington Lotto in Auckland scooped up $3,773,910, winning $3,523,910 on Lotto Powerball and another $250,000 with Lotto's First Division. The ticket has been claimed.

Three other players also won First Division last night, with each of them taking home $250,000.

"The changes we've made to Lotto have given the game much more variety which makes it more exciting for our players. We just never know from week to week what combination of prizes will be won," Mr Hall said.
