New Appointments At NZ Trade And Enterprise

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and Investment New Zealand have recently made a number of new appointments.

Paul Smith – Director – North Asia, Investment New Zealand
Investment New Zealand has appointed Paul Smith as Director of its new North Asia operation. Based in Hong Kong, Paul is charged with increasing the amount of high quality investment from North Asia into New Zealand, both to expand existing businesses and build new ones. Paul is a New Zealander with more than 16 years financial and investment banking experience in North Asia. Prior to joining Investment New Zealand, Paul was based in Hong Kong as Co-Head of Debt Products, Asia, with Deutsche Bank, most recently spearheading the development of Deutsche Bank’s leverage and structured finance, as well as high yield capital markets activities in Asia. He is a qualified accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand.

Grant McPherson – Regional Director South / South East Asia
Grant McPherson joins NZTE as their new Regional Director of South / South East Asia. In this role Grant will be responsible for NZTE and Investment New Zealand’s market development and investment attraction initiatives in this region. Grant joins NZTE with an extensive background in the finance and consulting and was previously the Managing Director of the New Zealand investment bank, Morel & Co Ltd. Grant has a Bachelor of Commerce & Administration from Victoria University of Wellington and an MBA from the Cranfield Institute of Technology in the UK and he will be based in NZTE’s Singapore office.

Fiona Acheson – Communications Manager
Fiona Acheson has been appointed NZTE’s new Communications Manager. She has been working at NZTE as a communications consultant for the last year having joined NZTE from Industry New Zealand. Prior that Fiona was responsible for marketing and communications at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. Previously Fiona has held communications positions at the Department of Labour, Department of Justice and Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

Megan McKenna – Group General Manager Strategy and External Relations
Megan McKenna joins NZTE as the new Group General Manager Strategy and External Relations. In this role Megan will have overall responsibility for the development of NZTE’s strategic direction and key stakeholder management. Megan comes to NZTE from Fonterra's corporate strategy unit. Previous to that, Megan held positions in the strategy and research fields in both New Zealand and Canada. She has also owned her own consultancy company and worked globally in marketing and development areas. Megan has a PhD in Economic Geography from the University of Ottawa, Canada and will be based in Wellington.


Anna Heiler – Director, Strategy and Evaluation
Anna Heiler is New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s new Director of Strategy and Evaluation. Previously Anna was a strategic advisor with the Strategy and Evaluation team at NZTE and before that worked in Scotland as the Head of Strategic Planning and Research for the Highlands & Islands Enterprise Network. In her new role, Anna is responsible for the team which provides strategic advice to management, the Board and staff, including the development of NZTE's strategic direction, contributing to the government's economic development agenda and manages NZTE's planning, reporting and evaluation functions. Anna is based in Wellington.
