2005 House of the Year Open for Entries

7 February 2005

This Time it's Online - Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers 2005 House of the Year Open for Entries

The Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers House of the Year is now open for entries, with new online entry making it easier than ever before.

Registered Master Builders Federation CEO Chris Preston says the new online entry option will make life simpler for builders to enter the competition. "The Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers House of the Year gets bigger each year and the online entry option means builders can enter multiple properties easily," says Chris Preston.

"2004 saw a record number of entries nationally in the competition and we are expecting even bigger numbers this year."

PlaceMakers CEO David Worley agrees and says that the Quality Marks which were introduced last year are proving valuable for those considering building a new home or renovating and who only want to work with a high quality builder.

"The Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards which were introduced last year enable homeowners to identify builders who consistently build above the industry standard. They can be confident that they are working with someone who is committed to building excellence," says David Worley.

The competition is popular with the general public and builders alike. The winner of the Supreme Award in 2004, Gary Bonham of GJ Bonham Builders, says, "Competing in HOY enhances your building career. There is a huge interest in building from the New Zealand public and winning this competition has raised our profile further and added another feather to our cap. It is great exposure."

In its 15th year, the Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers House of the Year is structured on two levels - local and national. Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners are determined in 20 local competitions around New Zealand using a points-based system. Entrants are marked against a scorecard with one overall winner awarded in each category. All Gold Award winners proceed to national filtration, with the top 100 becoming Gold Reserve winners. Gold Reserve winners then progress to the national competition where they are judged again by a new, national judging panel to determine the national category winners in both residential and commercial properties, as well as the 2005 Supreme Award.

The national winners will be announced at a gala dinner at Auckland's SkyCity Convention Centre on 15 October.

The Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers House of the Year is supported by principal sponsor PlaceMakers; and Lifestyle, Commercial and Supporting sponsors James Hardie, GIB Living Solutions®, Origin® , Tasman Insulation (Pink® Batts® UltraÔ), Mico Plumbing Supplies (Mico Bathrooms), and Housing New Zealand Corporation.
