InterCity and Newmans Coach Lines committed to serving all of NZ

"We are committed to servicing as many rural and regional communities as we can. We will ensure that demand from these centres is matched with capacity regardless of weather", emphasised Malcolm Johns, CEO for the InterCity Group. "With the withdrawal or reduction of other services between Auckland and Wellington and some rural centres in between, InterCity will meet resultant passenger demand on these routes", said Johns.

InterCity operates two daily services between Auckland and Wellington and points in between including multiple services to Huntly, Te Awamutu, Waiouru, Taihape, Otaki and Waikane. Fares start from as low as $10. "Services currently do not stop at Tekauwhata however in light of recent announcements this is now under review." stated Johns. "Passengers from rural and regional centres make up a huge amount of our business and their importance will ensure services continue".

InterCity Group, operates 120 services a day to 600 communities, towns and cities across New Zealand.

InterCity Coachlines is committed to providing reliable, regular transport at economic prices to New Zealand's rural, regional and main city centres. InterCity Coachlines operates one daytime and one overnight passenger service between Auckland and Wellington with travel times from ten hours and fifty minutes. To demonstrate the comfort, convenience and reliability of their service, a promotional fare of only $10 one way is available for a limited number of seats on the "Starlighter" overnight service. The Super Saver fare of $45 is available on the daytime InterCity service to these centres and points in between.

InterCity Group also owns and operates Newmans Coach Lines. Newmans Coach Lines provides a premium service between the main centres and tourist focused services to the key tourist regions and attractions. Newmans operates New Zealand largest daily scheduled tourist focused network as follows: Auckland – Wellington, Waitomo Caves, Rotorua - Auckland, Rotorua - Wellington, Tauranga - Napier, Christchurch - Mt Cook - Queenstown, Queenstown/Te Anau to Milford Sound and from 1 October 2005 Queenstown to Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers.

"Budget airlines are able to carry people between the 3 or 4 main centres but generally have little effect on passengers from our many rural and regional communities, domestic or international", Johns clarified. "We will continue to match demand with capacity and if need be, additional services and stops”.
